The eye specialists from 'Dr. Nihar Munshi Eye Foundation' operated them all. We have also given donation to Thakurpukur Cancer Hospital for the children ward. Besides 'Health' as one of our major aims, we have also undertaken literacy projects. The school began its literacy programme in the year 1998. In the year 2002 has been the programme go from strength to strength with number of students from the local slums increasing.
The under privileged children are provided with books, writing materials and food packets. Though no remarkable change was brought but a see change is visible.
Clothes collected from the students and were given to 'Nirmal Hriday' - an orphanage; established by Mother Teresa and at present by her organization. The students had spent two delightful days with the elderly people at chetla 'Navaneer' old age home. They spent chatting with them. Sweets were distributed Among them and small gift packets containing cold cream and hair oil were given to them. The way to help mankind to lead a better and in future healthy life and this is what we hope to continue .

( Under- privileged children ) Teachers of St.Joseph & Mary's School met the children and conducted 'Vocational Training Program' giving them an opportunity to learn & explore more than just the text books!
"Health is wealth" this is what the Principal Sir, teachers, co-ordinators and the students of St. Joseph & Mary's school believe in. Health is more valuable than the most precious of treasures. It is the greatest boon of life and which is why 'HEALTH' is one of our major concerned projects. We have given Hepatitis - B vaccination to 53 (fifty three) girls from the slum areas for a better future besides that the students regularly pay visits to the nearby New Alipore slum and distribute mosquito coils, pour kerosene and spread bleaching powder in the essential places. This year one of the major projects under 'Health' we have taken is 'Cataract Surgery and Treatment'. The slum dwellers were instructed and inculcated on the necessity of cataract operation. Twelve dwellers with MAT-CAT but were detected only four (4) underwent micro - surgery.
This school possess the largest interact club of Asia, the largest continent of the world. it was started in the year 1993 under the able guidance of the participation MR. BHAKTA SUNDER SHARMA, and the teacher coordinators. It started working as a small member but within a span of five to six years it became the largest club. It works throughout the year, with the Principal and head teacher coordinators, it does all is possible on its part to make the the environment a much better place to live in.
