ST Joseph & Mary's school was founded on 16 January 1963 by Mr. T L Lamb, a British educationist and teacher technologist. It began with 17 student and five teachers. After four years, in 1967, on the demise of Mrs. Lamb the founder Principal Mr. T L Lamb the took off for England forever.
In the same year Mrs. Sulekha Goswami became the Principal of the then private Institution. The school was sanctioned affiliation to the ICSE Council in the year 1980. The charge of the school in its nascent stage was handed over by Mrs. Goswami to Mr. Bhakat Sundar Shama (Acting Principal) on 16 August 1991. He was given the reins of the school in February 1993.
It is form then that the saga of St. Joseph & Mary's School, located at Block "N", New Alipore, Kolkata 700053, began its journey to the pinnacle of achievement and grouth, wholly supported ny an able team of teaching and non-teaching staff. In 1998, the school received its affiliation for ISC, With the strength of the students increasing ny leaps and bounds, a wide variety of subjects in Science, Commerce and Humanities are now offered to them. At present there are 2505 student, 106 teacher and 68 non-teaching staff. IN the year, 2013, 321 ISC candidates and 194 ISCE candidates will appear for Bound Examination form the school.
The objective of the school is to create worthy and honourable citizens of the global would. Character boulding. discipline and initiative by student from the bed-rock of training from the time students join the school. To achieve this, children are placed under qualified and experienced teacher, who in addition to laying the foundation of sound basic education also lay equalstress on discipline and building of character amongst all student. The Primary section boasts of following religiously the "Play while you learn' method. The school imparts audio-visual aids and computer applied teaching techniques for one and all.
In addition to the excellent result achieved in the Board Exminations by individual student from all the streams, the school has won a number of laurels which stand out like jewels on its crown. St Joseph and Mary's School runs the largest Interact Club in enteire Asia.
For its contnibution the school is recognized by the international Rotary Club and received several awards like ICC "Better Kolkata" apart from many more. In a worldwide competition, out of six winner, a painting by one of our students was selected by the UNO to be portrayed on a stamp. It is with the inspiration, guidance, dedication and devotion of Dr. B. S. Sharma, the Principal and his team that the school now steps into its 50th anniversary to celebrate the Golden Jubilee with elan.
